For over 100 years the Teatro Grande<\/strong> in Brescia<\/strong> has been a national monument. The greatest opera singers and the most famous Italian and international artists have been welcomed within its rooms \u2013 the lavish Sala Grande, the 18th century Ridotto and the Sala delle Statue. The Teatro Grande is famous throughout the world for having hosted Puccini\u2019s Madama Butterfly which brilliantly triumphed here after its resounding flop at the Scala. During the 20th century the Theatre obtained more and more importance until, in the 1970s, the Italian Government recognized it as one of the Theatres of Italian Tradition. Today it is managed by the Teatro Grande Foundation, which offers multidisciplinary programming, ranging from opera to dance, from music \u2013 classical, jazz and contemporary \u2013 to cultural initiatives, for children and teenagers. Tradition and modernity coexist in a space that is both a place of representation and a treasure trove of history and culture. International dimensions, innovation, excellence and young people are the cornerstones upon which the Foundation bases its programming strategies, which aim to make the Teatro Grande a national and international excellence. There are also numerous special initiatives carried out outside the Theatre\u2019s walls, such as the Opera Festival, the great event that every year involves more than 300 artists in more than 50 events scattered throughout the city: from dawn to midnight Brescia turns into a large open-air stage involving tens of thousands of people fascinated by the charm of melodrama.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
